Kidney failure, also called renal failure, happens when the kidneys fail to function as expected and can't get to rid of these harmful toxins and excess fluid. The toxic blood and excess water will result in different ailments. The breath may have an ammonia-like odor.

Uremia

Uremia is a medical disorder defined by excessive waste products and urea, which is a waste product of urine, in the blood stream. The incompetent kidneys fail to filter the blood correctly, which causes an imbalance of electrolytes. Uremia produces an ammonia or urine-like smell.
